Newcastle plans live viewing site for Knights grand final
Newcastle council is setting up a community live viewing site for Sunday's grand final.
Newcastle's council and University of Newcastle are scrambling to host a public watch party for the Knights' grand final on Sunday. After 25 years without a grand final appearance, the city is mobilising behind the team.
City Hall, the Civic Theatre and other civic buildings will light up in red and blue from Monday night. The Maitland region is also hosting a free live site at Maitland Regional Sportsground from 3:30pm, with a 10-metre screen and a screening of the Knights' 1997 grand final win beforehand.
Lord Mayor Gavin Morris promised to give the keys of the city to players and staff if they win.
