Shared Beginnings childcare chain enters administration amid sector turmoil
Childcare chain Shared Beginnings, owned by Finexia, entered administration after losing money across seven centres.
Childcare chain Shared Beginnings has entered administration. Shared Beginnings is the latest early education provider to struggle as the sector contracts.
The chain, owned by private lender Finexia, operates seven centres across Queensland, Victoria and the ACT. Finexia took ownership last year after Genius Education defaulted on substantial loans.
The collapse reveals risks in the private credit sector, which is less regulated than banking. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission said it is closely watching private lending.
It is concerned that "the first significant cracks" are showing. The Early Learning and Care Council found 152 long daycare services closed since 2024, with 276 more at risk.
For-profit providers make up 74 per cent of long daycare places and show the highest turnover.
