Theo Ives returns to North Launceston to mentor young squad
The 24-year-old key defender quit the Devils to help revive the Bombers as a senior leader.
Theo Ives played in North Launceston's last unbeaten state title and their inaugural NTFA Premier League win, then tried his luck with Glenorchy in the VFL. The constant travel to Hobart for training took a toll, and a strong back-line shut him out of games.
Theo Ives decided to come home. Now at 24, he is part of a recruiting drive that brought back former flag-winner Lochie Young as list manager and senior assistant.
Ives wanted to give young players the same mentorship and culture he had received from coaches like Brad Cox-Goodyer and Alex Lee. "If we can give the young fellas similar to what we had coming through the ranks, that's an ideal scenario," he said.

Why it mattersTop-tier players returning home strengthen local footy and keep talented young players in the community instead of losing them to bigger teams.
AustraliaNorth Launceston's recruitment of experienced leaders should help the Bombers rebuild after losing many players to the VFL, SFL and mainland leagues.
