My landlord is selling in the NT. Do I have to move?
Not without a valid notice. A sale does not end your lease, but a periodic lease can end on 60 days' notice.
Your clock
- 60 days, no reason: Notice (periodic)
- 24 hours: Buyer showing
- Written notice, earlier date: Leaving early
The rule in the NT
- A tenancy ends only in the ways listed in s 82. A sale is not one.
- The landlord can still end a periodic tenancy on 60 days' notice with no reason.
- Buyer showings: 24 hours' notice, 7am to 9pm, a reasonable number of times.
The Act has no sale-specific notice.
What to send
My tenancy continues until a valid notice ends it. Please give 24 hours' notice for each buyer visit.
