My landlord is selling in Tasmania. Do I have to move?
Not without a valid notice. A sale allows 42 days' notice in a periodic lease, with proof.
Your clock
- 42 days: Sale notice
- 48 hours, written: Buyer showing
- Court order needed: If you stay
The rule in Tasmania
- A sale does not end a lease. Only the ways in s 37 do.
- A sale notice is void without proof of the sale. In a fixed term, only the end-of-term notice applies.
- Showing a buyer: 48 hours' written notice, 8am to 6pm, once a day, 5 days a week at most.
Photos showing identifying belongings need your written consent.
What to send
Please send proof of the sale agreement with your notice dated [date].
