68-year-old Perth man charged after social media threat to shoot government
Police were tipped off about a threatening post. A 68-year-old Perth man was charged.
Australian Federal Police were tipped off about a threatening post on social media. Officers raided a home in Morley, Perth on Wednesday.
A 68-year-old man was charged with using a carriage service in a menacing way. The offence carries a maximum five-year prison sentence.
The man was granted strict conditional bail. He must return to Perth Magistrates Court on October 28.
The investigation was run by the AFP's National Security Investigations team. It was launched in October 2025 to target threats to social cohesion and hate targeting.
