Australian shoppers unknowingly buying dates from illegal West Bank settlements
$7.2 million of organic dates from illegal settlements were shipped to Australia over eight years. They were mislabeled as Israeli produce.
Global Echo is a human rights group. It looked at trade data.
Global Echo found at least $7.2 million worth of organic dates. The dates came from illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
The dates were shipped to Australia over eight years. Of 132 farm shipments looked at, 64 percent had settlement products.
The share has been rising. Between January 2025 and August 2026, 20 of 24 date shipments came from settlements.
Israeli law requires settlement exports to be labeled Israeli. An importing country can ban this rule.
Australia has no such ban or labeling rule. So settlement products reach consumers unmarked.
