Bystander dragged by stolen car at Lavington building

A stolen white Volkswagen Amarok crashed into a Lavington building after a bystander attempted to stop the teen driver.

The white Volkswagen Amarok hit a support post at a building on Griffith Road, Lavington, at about 10:30 am on Wednesday, November 4. Darren Smith spotted the car after searching for it overnight and tried to block its exit by parking behind it.

The driver reversed into Smith's car, then threw the vehicle into gear and drove forward, dragging Smith along as he tried to grab the driver. Two young people were arrested at Albury-Wodonga Mini Storage on Griffith Road after running from the scene.

Witnesses said three people in the car looked to be aged in their teens. The vehicle was believed to have been stolen from The River Deck Cafe carpark between 6:30 pm and 7:45 pm on Tuesday, November 3.
