Lance Cure marks 40 years as Australia's longest-serving finance broker
Lance Cure, Tasmania's first finance broker in 1986, has reached 40 years in the profession and still feels passion for the work.
Lance Cure started in banking after the 1975 Tasman Bridge disaster derailed his pharmacy plans in Hobart. Lance Cure moved to Launceston, spent four years with Toyota finance, then became Tasmania's first finance broker in 1986.
Cure built the business by showing up at pubs and clubs, talking to loggers and business owners on their own turf. The business grew to about a dozen staff across Launceston and Hobart before merging with Dynamic Brokers in 2025.
Throughout his career, Cure has sponsored clubs, organised community events, and served on the board of St Giles for 13 years. He's seen margins on mortgages drop from 5-6 per cent to 2-3 per cent, and watched broker-written home loans jump from 20-30 per cent of the market in the mid-1990s to 81.6 per cent by mid-2026.
Now 68, he has no retirement date in mind and wants to help his younger clients into the next stage of their careers.
