GWM Haval H7 targets 1000 sales a month with PHEV focus

GWM's new SUV has drawn 100-150 pre-orders per week, with plug-in hybrids making up about two-thirds.

The Chinese carmaker GWM has flagged strong demand for its new Haval H7 SUV. Pre-orders are running at 100 to 150 per week, with the plug-in hybrid variant (PHEV) accounting for roughly two-thirds of that.

GWM forecasts the H7 will sell about 1000 units per month once it settles, making it one of the brand's top sellers. Such volume would help GWM climb from seventh place in Australia toward its goal of cracking the top five.

For context, the Toyota RAV4 and Tesla Model Y currently average around 3590 and 3900 sales per month. GWM also has two more mid-sized SUVs coming in early 2027: the Jolion Max (available as PHEV or electric) and the Ora 5 Plus (electric only).

Why it mattersMore PHEV choices mean Australian buyers get hybrid options, supporting the shift from petrol-only SUVs.

AustraliaAustralian drivers will have a new mid-range PHEV SUV option, and GWM's ambition to reach top-five brand status could intensify competition in the mid-market SUV segment.
