Cottesloe Beach gets memorial sculpture for former councillor Helen Burke
Cottesloe council approved a sculpture valued at more than $50,000. It is a permanent memorial to late councillor Helen Burke.
The Town of Cottesloe unanimously approved a white marble sculpture on the beach foreshore. It honors former councillor Helen Burke, a long-time local who managed the nearby Beaches Cafe for years.
The artwork is called The Passage of Time and was created by South Korean artist Jina Lee. It was displayed at Sculpture by the Sea in March.
Burke's daughter, Heidi Whitfield, bought the sculpture and donated it to the council. The sculpture will sit on Marine Parade overlooking the ocean.
It is north of Pearse Street and directly in front of Seaview Golf Course. The sculpture stands about 183 centimetres high and is expected to remain in place for 30 years.
Sculpture by the Sea is handling delivery and installation costs, while the town will manage routine maintenance.
