Man found guilty of rape in Eaglehawk home attack seven years on
Dorian Richard Hunt, 53, was found guilty of rape and attempted rape of a woman at his Eaglehawk home in September 2019.
A jury has found Dorian Richard Hunt guilty of rape and attempted rape following a trial in Bendigo's County Court. The alleged attacks occurred on 21 and 22 September 2019 at his Eaglehawk home.
A witness testified he heard the victim say no and "get off me" through thin walls, and later found her distressed in the backyard. A friend of the victim told the court the man repeatedly tried to pressure her into sex.
The defence argued witnesses had colluded to secure his imprisonment. The prosecution said the victim was a credible, consistent complainant whose account was backed by witness evidence.
Hunt has been remanded in custody and will return to court on 10 February.

Why it mattersThe conviction means the victim's allegations seven years after the alleged assault have been upheld in court, following a contested trial where the defence challenged witness reliability.
AustraliaJustice has been delivered to a Bendigo victim through the Victorian court system, though the long delay between the alleged attack and conviction reflects how demanding sexual assault cases can be to prosecute.
