Western Bulldogs push for Mission Whitten Oval as AFLW finals conflicts emerge
Western Bulldogs requested Mission Whitten Oval for home finals; Geelong and Gold Coast face their own venue conflicts with other events.
The Western Bulldogs have asked the AFL to host any home finals at Mission Whitten Oval rather than Ikon Park. Mission Whitten Oval's newly renovated precinct drew 4,327 fans last weekend, the largest AFLW crowd there since 2020.
Geelong faces a scheduling conflict: if the Cats finish first, second, fifth or sixth, they will be unable to host a qualifying or elimination final at GMHBA Stadium because the venue is booked for Supercross.
Gold Coast has a similar problem after an Australia-England cricket T20 match was scheduled at People First Stadium on November 24. This blocks their ability to host finals beyond the first week.
Other clubs have already lodged their venue preferences. North Melbourne and Melbourne both want Ikon Park for its larger capacity.
