Geelong has McClelland Trophy almost sealed
Geelong's lead is so strong that rivals cannot catch them even if Melbourne wins the AFLW Grand Final.
Geelong is in the box seat for the 2026 McClelland Trophy and its $1 million prize money. The trophy combines the final standings of both the AFL and AFLW seasons, awarding points from first place down to last across both competitions.
After round nine of the women's competition, the Cats hold first place with Sydney in second. Sydney's chances of catching Geelong dimmed after Ally Morphett suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
Even if Melbourne somehow wins the AFLW Grand Final, they would only gain two points, leaving Geelong the favourites unless the Cats collapse and finish fifth or lower.
