Gippsland feedlot plan draws 700-strong community petition
A Gippsland farmer's feedlot proposal for 2,206 cattle prompted nearly 700 residents to sign a petition citing road safety and odour concerns.
A farmer near Maffra and Stratford in Victoria's south-east is proposing an automated cattle feedlot with 2,206 cattle in enclosed sheds on a 90-day feed cycle. Almost 700 residents signed a petition against the plan, citing increased traffic, noise, odour and pollution.
Nick Lee told the council it would add 850 truck movements a year to Llowalong Road. This risks safety.
The council referred it to its manager. A decision is unlikely until next year.
The farmer says the project will bring advanced feeding technology and educational opportunities to the region.
