Superdraft documentary marks 25 years of AFL's greatest draft class
A three-part documentary about the 2001 AFL Draft, which produced Hodge, Ball, Judd and a generation of champions, launches next month.
Twenty-five years ago, the AFL held what many call the greatest draft in the game's history. In November 2001, Hodge, Ball and Judd were the first three players picked.
What followed was an era-defining class: Gary Ablett jnr, Dane Swan, Sam Mitchell, Jimmy Bartel, Leigh Montagna, Steve Johnson and Nick Dal Santo all became household names. The three-part Superdraft series, created by Riot Content and AFL.com.au, digs into the key decisions, by players, coaches, recruiters and agents, that shaped club fortunes for two decades.
The documentary features more than a dozen interviews with figures from the time, including the drafted players, team officials and rival coaches. It launches Monday, November 16 at Marvel Stadium in a live event with Q&A and special guests.
