Woman avoids conviction after assaulting brother over gambling loss
Rayhana Kharishmann attacked her brother at a train station after discovering he had gambled away $20,000 she'd given him for studies.
On September 25 at North Wollongong train station, Kharishmann discovered her brother had lost $20,000 on poker machines, money she had saved to help him study. She punched and kicked him repeatedly in public.
A witness photographed the assault and it was reported to police. Kharishmann pleaded guilty to common assault in court on October 15.
Judge Geraldine Beattie acknowledged multiple acts of violence in a public place. However, she noted Kharishmann had no prior criminal record and accepted the incident appeared to be a one-off.
The court granted a non-conviction order, sparing her a permanent criminal record.
