Ballarat man jailed for aggravated burglary and car theft
Bailey Lawson, 21, was sentenced to seven months in prison for armed burglary and stealing a government car.
Lawson pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to charges including aggravated burglary, property damage and motor vehicle theft. In February 2026, he and accomplices broke into a Wendouree home.
Lawson and his accomplices were armed with poles and damaged property. In March, he and a co-accused broke into Ararat College.
They stole a government-owned car, which was later found abandoned in Ballarat with false registration plates. Magistrate Ronald Saines said Lawson's actions were "high-level crime" driven partly by long-term drug use.
He must undergo drug treatment. He must also comply with a 9pm to 6am curfew as part of an 18-month addition to a community corrections order.
