Street magician Braydon Taylor received a community corrections order for letting scammers use his bank account to steal $165,492 from a company.
Street magician Braydon Taylor, 24, was sentenced to a one-year community corrections order. Taylor pleaded guilty to dealing with stolen money.
In late 2024, while struggling financially, Taylor was approached via WhatsApp. Taylor was asked to provide his bank account details.
Scammers then sent a fake email to a Ballan employment agency. They claimed a demolition company had changed its bank account.
The company transferred $165,492 into Taylor's account. Taylor was instructed to buy gold bullion and hand it over to unknown people.
He bought $98,760 of gold and later $46,420 more. County Court Judge Sarah Dawes noted his role was limited.
The scheme was unsophisticated. Taylor admitted he knew something was wrong but felt blinded by debt.
