Robbery sentence cut by six months after Supreme Court appeal
Tieka Russell's sentence trimmed to 4 years 3 months after appealing robbery conviction with her father.
Tieka Russell, now in her 20s, forced a neighbour to sign over his car and withdraw $2,000 from an ATM during a robbery she carried out with her father Wayne Russell in June 2023. Wayne Russell approached the victim at his garage and threatened him, saying "I know bikies.
You're lucky we're doing this, we could make you disappear." The victim was then told to go to an ATM and withdraw cash.
After two years in jail, Russell appealed her sentence and the Supreme Court found she deserved a larger reduction than her father received, given her youth. She is now eligible for release on October 19, 2026, three months earlier than her original non-parole date.
