De Pasquale claims pole at Gold Coast 500 finals opener
Anton De Pasquale takes provisional pole position for the Gold Coast 500, kicking off Supercars' sudden-death finals series on Saturday.
De Pasquale clocked the fastest qualifying lap at 1 minute 9.077 seconds for Saturday's 85-lap race at Surfers Paradise. The result comes after a gut-wrenching Bathurst campaign where he ran out of fuel on the final lap and lost the lead.
Jack Le Brocq finished 17th on Friday and now faces elimination despite sitting 10th in the standings. Only seven of the top ten drivers will remain after the weekend; the bottom three who fail to win are out.
Brodie Kostecki starts 11th despite winning the Bathurst 1000 last week, a surprise after his strong result.
