Hanging Rock closes after fatal fall during climb
A man died after falling while climbing a rock at the volcanic formation's summit near Melbourne.
The man fell on Friday afternoon while climbing at Hanging Rock, about 75 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. Several off-duty medical professionals at the scene tried to revive him, but he was declared dead at the location.
Hanging Rock Reserve was closed Friday and Saturday, September 26, as a result of the incident. The Macedon Ranges Shire Council cited a medical emergency as the reason for the closure.
The timing coincided with the AFL Grand Final long weekend break. Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
