Man imprisoned after police find rifle and meth in car
Robert Bowen, 46, received 18 months jail for possessing firearms and methamphetamine.
Police found Bowen smoking methamphetamine behind the wheel at a service station near the Calder Highway about 2am on March 27. When they searched him and his ute, they discovered a sawn-off .22 rifle, bags of meth and cannabis, firearm rounds, and what appeared to be a homemade shotgun made from pipe.
Bowen pleaded guilty to multiple charges including being prohibited from possessing a firearm. The Bendigo Magistrates Court heard he had been caught driving while disqualified seven times before.
Magistrate Sharon McCrae said the court was "just completely sick" of his repeat offences. For firearms-related charges, he received 18 months in prison with a 12-month non-parole period.
He had already spent 118 days in custody.
