Ex-Moonee Valley mayor sentenced to jail for sexual assault
Cameron Nation, 42, was sentenced to three months jail and an 18-month community order for assaulting a 17-year-old in 2019.
Nation admitted to sexually assaulting a teenager who visited his home in December 2019. The victim reported feeling unsafe and unable to resist.
Despite pleading guilty, Nation was elected mayor of Moonee Valley less than 12 months later and served a full term representing 130,000 residents before the assault became public. A magistrate rejected his bid to keep his identity hidden, ruling the public had a right to know who was being sentenced.
He has flagged an appeal.
