Brethren church members campaigned for CLP in NT federal election, Labor claims
Ex-Labor leaders told a federal inquiry that Plymouth Brethren Christian Church members campaigned for the Country Liberal Party in 2025.
Former Northern Territory chief minister Eva Lawler told a parliamentary inquiry that Plymouth Brethren Christian Church members campaigned for the Country Liberal Party across the NT in 2025. Lawler alleged the men showed intimidating behavior at polling booths.
The church members also flew to remote Indigenous communities including Wadeye and Groote Eylandt. Lawler said she saw a man handing out CLP how-to-vote cards.
Federal Labor MP Marion Scrymgour alleged similar aggressive conduct at a Katherine booth. The church denied it played any role in the election.
The CLP's president said he had no knowledge of the party asking the church for campaign help.
