Shellharbour closes landfill on Sundays, cuts Saturday tip hours
Shellharbour City Council will close its landfill on Sundays and shorten Saturday hours for one year.
Shellharbour residents will have fewer weekend options at Dunmore Recycling and Waste Disposal Depot from now. The landfill section closes Sundays entirely.
Saturday hours shrink by two hours to 9am to 3pm. The recycling area stays open both days at the same times.
Council data found only about eight people used the landfill each weekend day. Around 95 per cent of weekend visitors use the recycling centre instead.
Mayor Chris Homer said the move aligns services with actual demand. The trial runs for one year.
Over summer, from mid-December to mid-January, the recycling area will extend to 8am to 4pm on Saturdays, but the landfill stays closed Sundays.
