Woolworths nearly doubles Coles' growth rate as grocer rivals battle shoppers
Coles' quarterly supermarket sales grew 3.6 percent, less than half Woolworths' 6.9 percent increase.
Coles reported quarterly supermarket sales of $10.3 billion, up about 3% from a year earlier. Woolworths grew sales 6.9%, nearly double Coles' rate, boosted by a popular Disney Ooshies collectables campaign.
Chief executive Leah Weckert said customers are shopping more carefully as household budgets tighten and families hunt for value. Coles is responding with new Every Day Price offers and its largest-ever Christmas range to win shoppers back.
The chain's liquor business, a weak spot, fell 1.3% to $831 million. Rising fuel costs will squeeze company profits in the first half of 2027.
