Joondalup recorded 1057 snake sightings, WA's hotspot study shows
Study identifies Joondalup as WA location with highest venomous snake sightings at 1057, with Geraldton also ranking nationally.
As spring temperatures rise, snakes become more active. West Australians heading outdoors face higher chances of encounters.
A new study found Joondalup recorded the most snake sightings in WA, while Geraldton ranks in the national top 10. Expert Marcus Cosentino, who runs Snake Catcher Perth, says snakes are common across the city but stay hidden.
Three main habitats are coastal dunes including Rottnest Island, dense native bushland like Canning Vale, and wetlands including Herdsman Lake. A common myth is that snakes are aggressive or live in family groups; both are false.
If you spot a snake, keep distance, monitor it, and call an expert to remove it safely.
