Eight-year-old's poppy art worn by 9000 student performers
A Year 2 student's collage of poppies became the official T-shirt design for thousands of NSW public school performers.
Andy Nguyen's ANZAC Day poppy artwork, made with stamps, markers and coloured paper when he was in Year 1, was selected for Operation Art, a joint initiative of Westmead's Children's Hospital and the Department of Education.
The artwork was printed onto T-shirts worn by more than 9000 performers at concerts including the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Town Hall. Up to 2700 more students will wear the design at the Festival of Instrumental Music at the Opera House.
The art unit praised the boldness and creativity of the collage. Andy said he loved doing art and making stuff, including cutting things, stamping and gluing materials together.
