Wegovy pill approved for Australian market, arriving before Christmas
The TGA has approved a daily pill form of Wegovy; more than 10,000 Australians are already on a waiting list.
The Therapeutic Goods Administration has approved a pill form of the weight-loss medicine Wegovy. People will be able to take a daily tablet instead of weekly injections.
The once-daily tablet will be available before Christmas and can be taken every morning on an empty stomach. More than 10,000 Australians are already signed up for the waiting list.
The pill comes in four strengths: 1.5mg, 4mg, 9mg and 25mg, matching the injectable version. The approval comes just more than three months after the TGA warned that Wegovy and similar GLP-1 drugs can cause a rare but severe eye disorder that may cause permanent vision loss.
