Bendigo primary school seeks new safety plan after council rejects truck curfew
Council voted to reject truck curfew trial near primary school during drop-off times.
Bendigo council unanimously rejected a truck curfew trial. The curfew would have banned heavy vehicles over 8 tonnes from Howard Street during school drop-off and pick-up times at Epsom Primary School.
The zone would have stretched between Midland Highway and Goynes Road. The zone sits near an intersection once voted the most dangerous in regional Victoria.
Community consultation showed 60 per cent opposed, while 40 per cent supported. The school council president said the decision won't stop safety improvements.
The focus is now on longer-term solutions like widened lanes and car parks. The council already provides school crossing supervisors at nearby intersections.
