Medical plane debris found off US coast, six people missing
A medical transport aircraft carrying six people lost contact over the Atlantic and debris has been found off Nantucket.
A Gulfstream G-100 medical transport plane disappeared early Saturday while travelling from Bermuda to Boston with six people aboard. The Federal Aviation Administration lost contact just after 01:00 local time.
The US Coast Guard confirmed debris from the aircraft off Nantucket, Massachusetts, and search crews including ships, helicopters and planes continue through the night. The aircraft belonged to Latitude Air Ambulances.
On board were two Canadian pilots, two Canadian medical staff, and a patient and their relative from Bermuda. Flight data shows the plane dropped rapidly from 7,300 metres to 3,300 metres before communications failed.
Radio transmissions indicate the pilot reported an electrical issue and declared an emergency.
