Dapto residents defend their town after comedy page mocks it as 'bogan capital'
A comedy Facebook page posted harsh mockery of Dapto; residents say the criticism misses what makes the town good.
The page Sht Towns of Australia posted about Dapto and Wollongong, calling Dapto 'a shit within a shit' and claiming it competes with Albion Park Rail for Greater Wollongong's bogan capital title. Locals pushed back.
Estelle Sopp, who has lived there more than a decade, said negative people exist everywhere but there is nothing wrong with Dapto. Steve Rauchell agreed there are lots of good people in the town, though it lacks pride.
Amber Tolley, who moved there 14 years ago, said it is nicer than other areas and less overcrowded. Ellen Thompson said everyone is entitled to their opinion but you find critics anywhere.
