Canberra conference explores how Australia controls its own AI models
Metopcon II explores how Australian organisations can build and control AI systems on their own infrastructure.
The second Meta Operations Conference will run on 23-24 October in Canberra and will bring together engineers, business leaders and government risk managers to explore sovereign artificial intelligence.
Australia can build AI models and systems it controls itself rather than relying on overseas tech giants. The first Metopcon in May showed small Canberra teams already using AI to boost productivity.
One developer completed 128 development sprints in three weeks instead of an estimated 12 months. An AI marketing operation cut manual work from 55 hours weekly to about two hours.
The conference will examine AI agents that can detect and repair software faults and manage business processes. Sessions will cover cybersecurity, data centre infrastructure and frontier AI research.
An Australian sovereign large language model shown at the May event cost between one-fifth and half the price per token of OpenAI or Anthropic models.
