Mexico City GP crash hands Verstappen and Lawson grid penalties
Both drivers received one-place grid drops and a penalty point each after contact between Turn 12 and Turn 13.
Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson collided in Friday's Mexico City Grand Prix practice, scattering debris across the track. Each driver received a one-place grid drop and a penalty point.
Stewards escalated the penalty beyond a warning because they had cautioned team managers earlier this year about similar clashes. Verstappen dived down the inside at Turn 12 while Lawson held his ground through Turn 13 before they made contact.
The drivers and Racing Bulls team boss Alan Permane all called the clash unnecessary. Verstappen and Lawson are contracted to Red Bull, which owns Racing Bulls.
