Billabong Crows football club pauses for 2027 after one-win year
A Hume League club voted to sit out 2027 after finishing second-last with one win and failing to sign any players.
Billabong Crows members voted Friday night to go into recess for 2027, after a brutal season and a failed recruitment drive. The club finished second-last with just one win in 2026.
President Michael Cunningham said he made over 100 calls, as did other club members, reaching out across South Australia, Victoria, and even the Northern Territory. No recruits came through.
The club was formed in 2005 from a merger of two Coreen League teams and has played senior finals once. Cunningham vowed to return in 2028 and will explore every option, including another merger or leaving the Hume League.
A similar club, Corowa-Rutherglen, went into recess in 2023 and came back in 2024.
