Steve Smith sits out Day 4 in Durban while tested for concussion
Smith is expected to be tested again on Tuesday morning in Durban.
Steve Smith was struck on the side of the helmet by a short ball from South African bowler Anrich Nortje. Smith passed an on-field test and looked unfazed as he reached 27.
Australia kept him off the field in case he had a concussion, and ran more tests. Smith had failed none of the further checks by the end of the day's play.
A concussion would leave Smith in serious doubt for Sunday's second Test in Gqeberha. Concussion rules mean players return to play one careful step at a time.
Josh Inglis looks set to be available, while Cameron Green is not yet ruled out.
