Severe storms and power cuts hit South East Queensland
Severe thunderstorms expected across South East Queensland with hail, wind and heavy rain.
Thunderstorms have already begun moving across South East Queensland, with early damage including almost 700 power outages in the Toowoomba area and 122 homes without electricity east of Warwick. Up to the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Brisbane are all in the warning zone.
Temperatures are reaching 27 to 29 degrees. Storm chances increase through the afternoon.
Severe storms are expected to bring hail around 2cm, wind gusts greater than 90km/h, and heavy rainfall. About 269 homes on the Sunshine Coast and 240 in the Moreton Bay area are already affected.
Meteorologist Felim Hanniffy warns the rainfall will be short and sharp rather than steady. This means dry conditions will continue to plague the region.
