Severe storms set to drench south-east Queensland after September's dry spell
Severe thunderstorms predicted Tuesday across south-east Queensland after the state recorded just 1.4mm rain in September.
Severe thunderstorms are expected across south-east Queensland on Tuesday afternoon. The Bureau of Meteorology said areas likely to be hit include Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, parts of the Burnett Region and areas west towards Toowoomba.
Residents should expect damaging wind gusts, hailstones above two centimetres, and flash flooding in areas directly affected. Senior meteorologist Angus Hines said this is the first major storm outbreak forecast for Queensland this spring.
Light rain may arrive on Monday across inland areas before the system intensifies Tuesday. Not all suburbs will be affected, but those in the storm's path should brace for disruptive weather.
The rain is welcome news after September's extreme drought, though Tuesday's downpour alone won't break the dry spell for the whole state.
