Victoria hits record spring rains; Mount Cowley gets 192mm in 72 hours
Mount Cowley recorded the highest rainfall total in Victoria's history: 192 millimetres across 72 hours.
Record-breaking spring rains soaked Victoria. The Mount Cowley weather station west of Lorne recorded the state's highest-ever rainfall total of 192 millimetres in just 72 hours.
Cowwarr Weir just south of the Victorian Alps received 185 millimetres over three days. Briagolong in Gippsland set an October record with 182 millimetres.
Lakes Entrance, Horsham and Mt Baw Baw all exceeded their previous highest single-day rainfall totals for October on Saturday. The Bureau of Meteorology warned that riverbanks have swelled.
This has caused local flash flooding and water across roads across the state. VicEmergency warned residents not to walk or drive through floodwater from the Thompson River at Wandocka in Gippsland.
Major flooding is still possible. Warmer relief is on the way.
