Rescue team deployed to find missing Australian hiker in Peru
Australian hiker Jordan Yap, 30, has not been seen since September 14 on a solo trek in Peru.
Jordan Yap, a 30-year-old from Melbourne, disappeared during a 10-day trek on the Cordillera Huayhuash circuit in Peru. Yap was last heard from on September 14 and was scheduled to return to Huaraz on Wednesday but never made contact.
Friends filmed him at the trek's starting point, but no contact has come since. Yap was experienced and had planned the trip for almost a year, making the silence completely unlike him.
The family has hired a specialist mountain rescue organisation to search the remote trail. Yap was believed to be wearing a white jacket and carrying a 40-litre pack, tent, and poles.
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance.
