Anthony Scaramucci, who served as Trump's communications director for just 11 days in 2017 before being fired, has published a book warning that Trump's presidency threatens the survival of American democracy.
In All the Wrong Moves, Scaramucci argues that Trump will not easily relinquish power and may seek to "subvert, override, or nullify the 2028 election" or prevent one from happening entirely. Scaramucci contends the real problem is not Trump himself but the millions of Americans who elected him twice.
They were driven by legitimate economic anger rooted in three decisions by political elites: Bill Clinton's admission of China to the World Trade Organisation, George W. Bush's unfunded wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and Barack Obama's bailout of Wall Street.
Without addressing these underlying causes of voter rage, Scaramucci warns, the threat to democracy will only deepen. "Even if we survive Trump," he writes, "we won't survive the next Trump unless we change."
