One suspect called police before RAF Fairford arrest
One of five arrested men called emergency police before the group was detained near RAF Fairford air base.
One of five men arrested near RAF Fairford called the 999 emergency line in the early hours of Sunday morning. Police detained the group shortly after near three white vans parked at the air base perimeter.
The vans were checked and found to hold petrol but no explosives. The man's motives for calling police remain unclear; it was not known whether his call was part of the plot or a sign he had second thoughts about the plan.
All five were released on bail about 38 hours after arrest. Intelligence officials have speculated the plot was an attempt by a foreign power, possibly Iran or Russia, to test British air base defences by hiring proxies to drive to the site.
No British minister has confirmed any of these claims.
