De Pasquale runs out of fuel on final lap, hands Bathurst 1000 to Kostecki
Anton de Pasquale's car ran out of fuel on the final lap after a software error at his pit stop.
De Pasquale held the lead with one lap to go before his engine died. A glitch in the only Team 18 fuel strategy software incorrectly calculated his fuel load, leaving him underfuelled at his final service.
Brodie Kostecki cruised through for victory with Todd Hazelwood. Team 18 principal Adrian Burgess said the loss felt as bad as the day Ayrton Senna died, describing the garage atmosphere as if someone had died.
De Pasquale could not stay at the track, driving home to Melbourne that night. Burgess said the margin cost them the race by just 2 seconds.
