Feeney wins Gold Coast 500 as team orders backfire spectacularly

Feeney wins Gold Coast 500, but a team order backfires, eliminating Wood from finals contention.

Broc Feeney won Sunday's final Supercars race at the Gold Coast in 250km of wet conditions, securing his first victory at his home circuit and guaranteeing a place in the Sandown finals. The real drama involved Mostert, Wood and De Pasquale in the final spot battle.

Walkinshaw TWG Racing ordered Chaz Mostert to drop back and let Ryan Wood move up to third place. This move denied Mostert the chance of a fourth straight Gold Coast win but was meant to boost Wood's finals hopes.

The gamble spectacularly backfired. Anton De Pasquale, seventh at the time, rebounded from an early collision and claimed the final qualifying spot instead.

Wood finished the race eliminated from the championship, and Mostert overtook him on the final lap to salvage third place.

Why it mattersOne wrong strategic call cost a driver ranked ninth his championship dreams, showing how fine the margins are in the Supercars finals series.

AustraliaAustralian Supercars fans saw a dramatic twist in the championship race, with only seven drivers now remaining in contention for the title heading to Sandown.
