Central Coast joins Lake Macquarie in bid for high-speed rail manufacturing hub
Central Coast Council will submit an expression of interest for a high-speed rail facility on Aboriginal land, competing with Lake Macquarie.
Central Coast Council has voted to submit an expression of interest to house an advanced manufacturing facility on 20 hectares at Bushells Ridge, owned by the Darkinjung Aboriginal Land Council and supported by Darkinjung representatives.
Lake Macquarie City Council's long-held push to host the facility at Teralba directly competes with this bid. The NSW government recently announced Teralba as its preferred location for a $12 billion train manufacturing hub.
The High Speed Rail Authority's expression of interest deadline is November 18. Lake Macquarie Council says it is not submitting its own EOI because it holds no land that meets the authority's needs, but is encouraging private landowners in the area to apply.
