Nearly seven in ten Garran parents fear traffic will hit their children
Parents surveyed 86 families, identified unsafe crossings and missing footpaths, but the government committed to no new work.
Parents at Garran Primary School say kids face serious risks on the way to school: unsafe crossings, missing footpaths and fast traffic. A survey of 86 families in October and November 2025 found nearly seven in ten parents feared cars would hit their children, stopping them from letting kids walk or cycle to school.
More than 90 per cent said safer crossings and finished footpaths were very important or extremely important. The P&C asked for work on Gilmore Crescent, Kitchener Street, Robson Street and Harpur Street.
The ACT Government said it has no plans right now. The requests went on a list to consider later, with no confirmed funding or timeline.
A government spokesperson said it was watching traffic after recent school changes but cited other priorities.
