Couple volunteers 30 hours weekly running Tasmanian cricket club

Sharon and Greg Redman volunteer 30 hours a week managing canteen, ground and hiring at Burnie Hurricanes.

Sharon and Greg Redman took on the secretary role at Burnie Hurricanes in 2020 when their son mentioned the need. Six years later, they volunteer about 30 hours weekly during cricket season while running their cleaning business.

Sharon and Greg Redman handle the canteen, manage The Point facility, hire staff, work the bar at functions and prepare player meals on Thursdays. Greg also photographs from the boundary.

Sharon said it takes them three hours to clean The Point, and the pace during summer is exhausting. But they say the club feels like family and gives back for the chances it gave their son.

Sharon urged other residents to volunteer even half an hour, saying clubs struggle to find people willing to step up.
