Indi Bowles scores maiden win on 15th ride
Launceston jockey Indi Bowles wins her first race on her 15th ride with horse Popilita.
Indi Bowles, a 20-year-old from Launceston, finally landed her first racing win after months of near-misses. Indi Bowles guided the horse Popilita to victory over 1100 metres in the Lenny Porter BM60 Handicap at Mowbray Racecourse.
Bowles made her debut in September and had placed several times before this win. Popilita is trained by Graeme McCulloch, who also manages Grenville Stud where Bowles works.
She grew up around horses and competed in show jumping and eventing before switching to racing. "All those things take time," McCulloch said.
"You've only got a split second to make decisions." Bowles aims to win a premiership and hopes to ride on mainland tracks.
