Two people airlifted with burns in Illawarra in five hours
A man in his 30s and a 13-year-old boy were airlifted to hospitals after burns in separate incidents within hours.
A man in his 30s suffered serious burns to his face, neck and hands after an explosion at his home in Bellambi on Tuesday evening. The man had tried to light a fire when it exploded.
Paramedics described the incident as accidental. The man was airlifted to Concord Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A few hours earlier, a 13-year-old boy was airlifted to Westmead Children's Hospital. He had significant burns to his legs and back from a bushfire in nearby Horsley.
The boy was conscious when paramedics arrived. The two emergencies happened within a five-hour period in the Illawarra region.
They triggered two separate rescue helicopter callouts.
